How To Eat Healthy at Social Events

Social events are when we overeat. There are so many choices, you want it all, you're talking while eating so you're not paying attention to how many bread rolls you just ate out of the basket...we can get carried away!

But these are the times where we need to focus most and stay in weight loss mode, so here are my best tips and tricks on how to stay focused on your goals and eat healthier at social events.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE?

The first thing you need to ask yourself is what is the purpose of this event? It might be a birthday party, a sports game, or a girls night. This should be your main focus.

Remind yourself throughout the night of your purpose, and usually the purpose not food. If you find yourself eating something you shouldn't - pause and remind yourself - then get back to enjoying that instead.

ARE YOU ABLE TO STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD ALTOGETHER?

You might want to eat before the event. Have a nice early dinner with proteins and veggies to focus on the purpose of the event and your goals. Just go with a water bottle and your purpose.

Ask yourself -

Do I need this eating opportunity?

Do I want to see it on the scale later?

Stay in weight loss mode!

BRING HEALTHY WITH YOU

Events are often full of sugars and carbs, and not many healthy options.

So bring a veggie or fruit platter to the party! Then you'll know you will have something healthy to munch on, and everyone else will be happy you brought it too.

WHAT ABOUT BIG EVENTS, LIKE WEDDINGS?

Before the event, ask yourself - Do I want to make this a weight loss day?

Focus on your purpose and goals with water, and sip wine slowly.

Make your plate with mainly proteins and veggies to keep yourself feeling full and satisfied throughout the night. Enjoy and eat slowly!

Sip a glass of water before you eat, throughout your meal, and in between alcoholic beverages and sodas.

As for dessert, eat a small sample or share with someone else. Ask yourself - do I need this eating opportunity?

BOTTOM LINE...

- Focus on the purpose of the event.

- Stay in weight loss mode.

- Ask yourself if you need this eating opportunity.

- Water first, water most.
